Protect Shasta County. Ban Data Centers Before They Start.

We must secure the future of Shasta County before it is too late.

We are launching a unified front to press the Board of Supervisors, the Redding and Anderson City Councils, and the City of Shasta Lake to ban industrial data centers.

 

Our objective is clear: demand a preemptive zoning ban on data centers across our entire county.​

​

We must protect Shasta County's natural beauty and resources before corporations try to build here.

​

Data centers bring severe problems:

• Industrial Eyesores: Massive concrete warehouses that ruin our beautiful landscapes.

• Power Grid Drain: Giant facilities that consume massive amounts of local electricity.

• Increase energy costs 

• Consume massive amounts of water 

• Constant Noise: Industrial cooling fans running 24/7, creating a non-stop disruptive hum.

• Artificial Heat Pollution: These facilities pump put constant, massive thermal plumes.  Recent studies show they spike ground temperatures by up to 16 degrees Fahrenheit and air temperatures up to 4 degrees Fahrenheit up to 5 blocks away. In Shasta County's already extreme summer climate, this artificial warming - heat island - destroys the local microclimate and will drive up utility costs.

• Increased Wildfire Risk: Shasta County already experiences extreme, dry summer heat waves and red flag wind conditions. Pumping millions of watts of extra power through aging utility grids to feed a data center increases the risk of overloaded lines sparking a catastrophic wildfire.

• Habitat Destruction: Building these multi-acre industrial complexes fragments local ecosystems, displaces wildlife, and strips away the natural vegetation that helps cool the ground, permanently scarring our Northern California.

• Risk of Fueling Mass Surveillance & Overreach: If allowed into our county, these facilities will become the physical backbone of an ever-expanding surveillance state. They provide the massive processing power required to monitor, track, and catalog our digital lives. Inviting them here risks building a digital grid used by corporations and governments to spy on regular citizens—threatening our core values of personal privacy, independence, and freedom from constant observation.

Our goal is to gather thousands of signatures and pack the public boardrooms so full that local officials will be completely unable to ignore our demands. We need a visible, undeniable crowd to establish these vital zoning protections.
